Historically known for silk worm farming and mulberry trees, the town of Saint-Jean-du-Gard is also home to many monuments for day trips with your children or friends. Whilst you are wandering around, visit the clock tower and the Vieux bridge, both listed historical monuments, the United Protestant church of France, the Evangelical Pentecost church and the house of the Algues knight. The town also has an immense reception facility, the Espace Paulhan, with a 350m2 terrace and a capacity for 1,100.

And if you are looking for culture and history, try the narrow streets and museums in the town (Désert and Vallées Cévenoles museum), and gaze in wonder at the castles in the area: château de Cabrières, château du Maylet, château de Marcassargues, château de Sueilhes… And if you are tempted by a guided tour, contact the Sentiers Vagabonds association.

Welcome to the Gard, in one of the many villages of character that Occitanie has. Saint-Jean-du-Gard, starting point of the famous Cévennes steam train, is rightly called “the pearl of the Cevennes”. And for good reason, this town of 2,800 inhabitants was built in an exceptional setting, at the foot of the mountains and on the edge of the Gardon de Saint Jean. Many marked trails, from 4 to 8 hours, you will discover beautiful views including the St Peter’s Pass, the peak of Arbousse, Mount Brion. The GR70 or Stevenson trail passes a few meters from the campsite.
