Welcome to Mas de la Cam, a 4* campsite at the foot of the Cévennes in the town of Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Our campsite has spacious pitches and holiday cottages for an unforgettable holiday in the Gard with your family or friends.
In 2000, an operation led by the network of the Great Sites of France made it possible to carry out works of development aiming to protect this aqueduct steeped in history threatened by the influx of visitors. A museum has been set up nearby and during fine weather, beaches are set up on the banks of the river, on the banks of the right bank of the Gardon. After immortalizing your visit, you can sunbathe with family or friends while your children will cool off in the river.
Guided tours for groups are organized. Accompanied by a guide, you will reach the top of the bridge and discover all the secrets of his construction. The site also offers activities, animations and exhibitions. It houses restaurants and shops where you can buy souvenirs of your family holidays in Gard. The restaurant “Les Terrasses” specializes in organizing weddings and business events.
Two great hiking trails pass by this sumptuous bridge overlooking the Gardon Valley, the GR6 and the GR63.
THINGS TO DO NEAR THE PONT DU GARD
Listed as a French historical monument and featured on the UNESCO world heritage list, the Pont du Gard is an engineering masterpiece dating back to Roman Antiquity, and one of the Occitanie region’s major architectural sights. This magnificent Roman aqueduct which spans the Gardon river was built to transport water from the Eure fountain in Uzès to Nîmes, and was called Nemausus at the time. Water was transported to supply the gardens, fountains, bath and thermal spas in the city.
The Pont du Gard is a remarkable enormous stone construction and very well preserved. Built on three levels and nearly 50 metres high, the bridge has 52 arches. It peaks at 275 metres at its highest point. Each vault is made up of smaller vaults, which has made it possible for the aqueduct to resist sagging over the centuries.
